Where does your draft actually stand?

A short, honest check of what's working and what to look at first.

This check works from your answers, not your manuscript. It points to questions worth revisiting; it cannot judge the pages for you.

1. Where is this draft right now?
2. Does your opening start in action or in exposition?
3. Can you state, in one line, what your protagonist wants and what stands in the way?
4. Is it clear on the page what happens if your protagonist fails?
5. Is there a stretch of the book you suspect drags, or that you skim when you reread?
6. Who has read the whole manuscript and given you feedback?
7. Does your ending deliver on the promise your opening makes?
8. If you had to guess right now, is the story working?
